Default Xterra fuel pump working but not...its wierd!

ping tank
I had an issue in my 00 xterra 3.3 it would act like it was running out of fuel but only after getting to operating temp. I changed everything I could think of. Plugs ...wires...cap...rotor..distributor..maf sensor...tps sensor....fuel filter...air filter...fuel pump...and fuel sending unit. Now it won't start at all. I traced everything back to the fuel, tank. Fuel pump is running but not sending fuel. I took it out placed it in a bucket of gas applied direct 12v and it pumps like crazy. But once it's back in the tank it spins but doesn't pump. What in the world, could cause this. My car has 160000 miles. My car has an automatic transmission.

Are you sure the pump is running when it is installed in the tank? These vehicles had problems with the fuel sending unit. The circuit for the fuel pump within the sending unit would corrode and the circuit would "open," or, have high resistance, causing the fuel pump not to work. This issue was recalled and, if it was never done, would still be available for your vehicle. Just contact any Nissan dealer or their customer service hotline and ask them to check you VIN for any open recalls or campaigns. You can also check on Nissan's website. For more details, you can refer Nissan technical service bulletin NTB04-062c, which you can download here:

Underneath where the connector to the fuel sending unit could be the problem as the plastic has a tendency to break and allow moisture to get to the two connections that at times will erode and not allow power to get to the pump itself. If this is the case you will have to replace the entire furl sending unit.
