It is located below the intake manifold on the firewall side. Not many sensors in that side so look for something that look like in the pic. You need a 10mm socket and a wrench.

When you scan the ecm, are you sure there were no other codes? The info. I have including the service manual says it does not trigger the MIL. Scan again and see if there other dtcs. If it is a failed KS, you mentioned your Xterra is turbocharged, you will need to replace it.

Yes you have to take plenum and IM to get to it. Dealers are saying its a 6 hr. job, wow. On my Altima I'm lying on my back looking up but my view is block by the crossmember but was able to remove and re-install. Hope this helps.

I have a 2003 Xterra with the 3.3 V6. Not supercharged. If I am reading your reply correctly--I must take off the intake manifold and the plenum to get to it. Will I have to replace any gaskets on the IM? I am not sure what the plenum is, but I am assuming it is some type of cover. I tried downloading the service manual that shows this procedure(I think) but when I down load it says the file is damaged and cannot be repaired...you might want to see about fixing or replacing that file. Thanks

In Nissan universe, the plenum is the Intake Manifold collector. The intake air duct is connected to. For under $20. for the 2, yes I would replace.

Default Knock Sensor on a 3.3

Well, now I am confused...I was able to download the engine mechanical section. However, the only page that refers to the knock sensor is under the KA24DE section which would appear to be showing the 4 cyl engine. When I look under the components section in the VG33E and ER section which looks like the V-6 engine (which I have) there is no mention whatsoever of a knock sensor??? That would tell me that there is no such thing on a V-6 engine (but, I know that can't be true because you told me where to locate it) I really would rather not tear into my intake manifold and IM cover (plenum) if I really don't have to. Can someone take a picture of where it is located and attach it to a post so I can see...if you have a 3.3 engine, that is. Thanks

The Frontier 01-04 and Xterra 02-04 share the same engine the VG33 series which also can be found on older Pathfinder, Infiniti Q4, Quest/Merc Villager.

Hey Bennyb53 and Mpe235...Thanks guys for all the helpful information. I am going to try and negotiate a price to replace the KS...I already have it and I will get the gaskets for the IM. By the way, on the other thread, they said the KS was about $135. I got mine at NAPA for less than $85...this was NAPA part, not the cheapy. I am not affiliated with NAPA at all, but have had good luck in the past with getting parts from them on a variety of other vehicles. Thanks again!
