Question Excessive engine noise

I have a 2004 X-terra. 40000 miles. I take good care of it. I keep great maintance on it. Just bought tires and it runs perfect. The only problem is engine noise. Sounds like excessive valve train noise and when driving I hear like piston slap. In drive with brake on I can give gas and at first you can hear lower knocking noise. It really sounds like a sewing machine in park. Some type light ticking too. I have had it to 2 different dealers and they all said that year v6 is very noisey and they compaired it to another and it sounded the same. They said they gave it a compression test with the first major tune-up I had and it was good on all cylinders. I have extended plan good til 2011 OCT. I wonder if they are waiting til it is up then tell me I need major engine repairs. I probably sell it if it does but I really hate to give it up. Anyone else have excesive engine noise that dealers say is normal. It has been scoped and compression checked ok.

I would try a different dealership and get a second opinion on the noise.

Default Excessive engine noise

I been to all 3 dealers hear and they just say it is normal. Private ones say it is not but no-one really wants to dive in and attempt to fix it. I guess I will just keep driving it til it winds up on a hook and then they will find the problem...
