Low voltage on power window motor. Will go down but not up.
Was wondering if anyone has encountered this problem before. I have been searching the forums for an hour now and have not really seen this particular issue.
2004 Xterra Front passenger window will go down just fine, upon activating either side switch it will not go up. Took the panel off and disconnected the motor harness. Put a multimeter on the harness and when either switch is down I get a good +12.2 V. When either switch is up I am reading around -10 to -11 V. Sometime only -9 V when I first press the switch, then the V will creep up to -11 or so if I keep the switch activated. If I manually rig the harness backwards, (swap the 2 wires) the window will now go up just fine but not down, so I do not believe it is the motor or the regulator since it works fine both ways (if I manually swap the + and -) Any idea what might be the cause of the low voltage? I am thinking that is the reason why it's not going up? |

There are only two wires going to the motor and the polarity swaps when selecting either up or down. The pass switch works thru the master sw on drivers side and it sounds like the master sw is bad.

I wish I had an answer for you but I have the exact same problem. Have you been able to figure anything out yet?

I believe the link to a website for Parts Replacement.
This one works: http://www.switchdoctor.net/nissan-w...-2004-oem.html Last edited by AnthonyS; 05-13-2012 at 01:20 PM. |

Thank you for your reply!
So the answer to the OP's problem was to replace the switch??? I also have a rear power window in my 2002 Xterra that goes down just fine, but has to be helped up (push up on glass with flat of hand). Other threads here seem to indicate a bad window motor... |

Actually the problem was that the window gaskets were dry. I used some spray silicone in the window tracks to soften the rubber gaskets. Now it goes up and down no problem.

I'm wondering if maybe I have some crap stuck in the track, or the riser...Can't see or feel any, but can't see inside the door...Haven't taken panel off yet... |

You might want to take the door off. Run the window up and down and see where it binds.
Maybe the track is loose or possibly out of alignment? You won't know until you take the door panel off. |
