Default One front wheel closer to body than the other

Having just had replacement tyres fitted to my car, 2003 X-Trail, when having full lock on reversing or forward, the left hand front tyre scraped on the body, before the tyres were fitted I had a full wheel alignment done. This as the previous front tyres had worn down very badly on the inside edges. Before the alignment and after the car steered well, did not pull to one or the other side when braking. In fact no complains at all. But I have had to have the large heavy duty tread tyres moved from the front to the rear as the right front tyre had actually already worn through part of the fibre cover on the wheel arch.

On checking the distance of the front tyre before they were moved to the back, I noted that the distance between the fibre cover on the right side was 30 mm less than the distance on the left side, this then was the reason for the left tyre hitting the fibre cover and wearing through it.

The car drives perfect, but I worry of how could this alignment fault occur? Could it be from new?

Anybody throw some light on this? Perhaps have also had this problem. As the car drives well and I have covered many miles in on long trips should I worry or just accept the body differences.

There is a slight offset from side to side when the tires are installed but not enough to strile the inner fender liner. Where the tires installed a different size than original?

Thanks for taking the time to reply. The new replacement tyres were a larger tyre than were fitted, being heavy duty thread. I have now had the front wheels with the heavy duty tyres moved to the rear and all is as it should be. Just means I can not have heavy duty all terrain tyres on the front. Not a big problem for me as being 4 wheel drive when I need it this should be OK here in sunny Spain.
