Default coolant smell

Just wondering if anyone out there knows the answer to this one. When driving my 2006 xtrail the other day I noticed while driving a smell of coolant. The temp gauge stayed on normal, and everything seemed fine, but the smell was there. After stopping for a while and driving again the smell was gone and I haven't gotten it since. Any suggestions?

Was it a coolant smell or a nasty 'musty' aircon smell?
