Replacing coolant: Proper procedure
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone knows the correct procedure to replace the coolant on 2008 Versa? The Haynes manual mentions 1 drain plug from radiator and one from the engine block. I drained from radiator, but did not seem that all fluid was drained. I do not know where the engine drain plug is. Does anyone on the forum know where it is? Also, what about the coolant in the reservoir? How is this relaced? Thanks, Pete |

1. The coolant reservoir is independent of the radiator and coolant in the engine block and heater core. If you think its dirty, you can remove and clean it and fill to its specified level.
2. To swap coolant, simply drain from the radiator. When you think all coolant has drain out, keeping the radiator coolant drain open, connect your garden hose to the radiator and fill your radiator. Start engine and keep running while garden hose is running and radiator drain plug open. Also turn on your heater and fan to high setting at the same time. 3. When water coming out from radiator is clear it means all coolant has been drained. Remove garden hose from radiator while engine continue to run another 15-20 seconds to remove remaining water in cooling system and heater core. 4. Shut off engine and close radiator drain plug. Fill radiator with new coolant. Start engine and fill radiator with coolant as necessary. At the same time keep heater on high to circulate coolant. When you think radiator is full, rev engine to 2,000 rpm a couple times, re-install radiator cap and you're done. |
