Default nissan paint problems 2004

Are there any other users out there who have a Nissan Titan 2004
that has noticable either thin coat of paint or no clearcoat.
Mine scratches very easily.

Default thin paint

I had a 2004 titan XE with primer showing through on the "A" pillar on the driver side that the dealer had to repaint.

If you look at the hood of my 2004 Titan wrong, it chips. My Titan has more chips in the paint at 18K miles than my Pathfinder with 125K. Really poor paint quality IMO.

My 2005 Titan Crewcab has terribly sensitive paint that scratches and chips with any amount of pressure. NISSAN should have to do something about this obviously rampant problem!

Agreed.I have had the same problem with my '04 Crew Cab.It is a very sub-standard paint job.

Having been involved for years in the Automotive Restoration, and Customizing industry I think I have your answer.

You can blame a lot of the paint problems had by Nissan and others on the good old government. In our increasingly ridiculous quest to make everyone and everything safe from everything, the regulations regarding solvents, volatile organic compounds (or VOCs), and general paint hardners and additives have really diminished the quality of paint finishes available in my opinion. There have been too many compromises for "environmental reasons" which never result in a better product.

Believe me... If Nissan and other carmakers could go back to the old way of painting their cars, they surely would. You should see the new regulations that come out every year. It borders on being criminal. Most of the so called experts recommending changes for environmental reasons would not know a can of paint if it bit them on the A$$.

OK... I go away now.

Default 2005 with paint problems

My smoke gray paint is very thin and soft. Almost anything causes scratches, and in one spot someone rubbed the paint off above the gas cap. I assume it happened when someone filled the tank and rubbed it with the hose (in Oregon we don't pump our own). My dealership denies any paint issues of course.
