You mentioned that you just replaced your battery...I pulled this from your Owner's Manual :innocent:

Yes, I read that. That's why I bought the new battery. Isn't there a switch somewhere that needs to be replaced too?

Thanks for your time!!!!!!!!

Sorry. When you said you bought a new battery - I was under the impression that it wouldn't go into gear after you bought the batter. OK - have someone stand behind your car and you get inside and do you normal stuff. See if you brake lights come on (you know, push the brake down before you try to pull it out of park). If your brake lights don't come on - it may be the switch at the top of your brake peddle.

dude what really happened? changing the battery does not keep the shift lock from working. the procedure in the owners manual is for emergencies, like to get it towed. do you hear a clicking sound when you press down on the pedal? how long have you had this problem? have you ever spilled pop or coffee on or near the shifter?

the shifter cover just pulls straight out. you may have to pull the lower cover beneath a/c control head, but I think it should come out on it's own. You can use like glass cleaner (the type that foams up) to clean it. comething that is safe for plastic and metal that will clean.
