Default 2001 Sentra SE 2.0 Ignition Coil Fuse blowing, no start

My 2001 Sentra SE 2.0, ignition coil fuse (15 A) blows.
New codes since the car was running without issues: P505 - Idle air control and P171 - lean bank 1.
I've disconnected connectors from the following items as I read they are on the same (ignition coil) circuit:
1) EGR Volume Control Valve (rear of engine)
2) Idle Air Control Valve (lower throttle body)
3) Distributor (with integrated coil) 6 pin connector
4) Distributor 2 pin connector (single wire to this connector)

Through trial and error, the Ignition Coil Fuse blows ONLY when the 2 pin connector (single wire) is connected to the distributor.
The voltage on the (single wire) two pin connector is 12.4 volts.
(battery less than 6 months old)

My last Automotive Electrics class was in the early 1970's at Weber College in Ogden, UT.
I would like to ascertain the source of my problem prior to assuming I have a shorted ignition coil.
Any help for this old school guy is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Vinny

Also, what is the purpose of the condenser (aka capacitor) mounted on the distributor (integral ignition coil)? What would cause it to short to ground?
