2004 Nissan Sentra 1.8s - Throttle sticking open slightly when gas pedal released
Hey guys, the title pretty much says it all. When I drive and I rev to say 3500 RPMs, I drop the gas and push the clutch in as normal but the RPMs don't drop right away when I release the gas pedal as they should. They stay frozen right where they are for at least a good second and then start to drop. This makes my shifting very slow as I wait for the RPMs to drop some so I don't cause excess wear and tear on the clutch.
What could be causing this? I removed the intake box and cleaned any gunk I could find inside the throttle body but that hasn't helped at all. It seems as if there is just some kind of delay with the electronics or a sticky actuator somewhere. I just don't know where to look at this point. Im fairly mechanically inclined, I just need a new place to look at. I hate electronic throttles :D Thanks so much for any input edit: Just wanted to add that even if Im at a stop and I jab the throttle really quick and immediately release, the RPMs still stay where they are for a good second. Definitely sounds like sticking throttle body. Did you tried performing the Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning procedure?

bennyb53: The CEL is not on.
NissanTech: While we were cleaning the inside of the throttle body I believe we unintentionally performed the procedure described a few times. The key was constantly on/off during our inspections, etc. |

I did just try the actual procedure today. It didnt help. Im starting to believe I have a bad Throttle Position Sensor. Im considering replacing it but I also need the new throttle body that is attached, too, i believe.

Check and adjust TPS first.

inspect and test your accel. pedal sensor.

How do you adjust the TPS? Its riveted onto the throttle body and that usually means its a bad idea to take it off.
I ordered a brand new throttle body and TPS and its on the way but Im not convinced this will solve my issue. But, if it doesnt work I can always return it. I took a quick look at the accel pedal sensor but I have no experience with them and it looked like it functioned properly :D. Ill take a closer look at it next chance I get. |

If it's riveted you have a 2.5 not 1.8.!!???
And it's build IN the housing.(no tps replacement available) |

Its definitely a 1.8 and its definitely riveted on. It looks like the new replacement that I just ordered does not have rivets, however.

Well the new throttle didnt change a thing. I reset the ECU and did the throttle relearn and it still acts the same.
Another symptom Im noticing now is during a cold start the idle hops between 2000 and 2500 RPM back and forth until its warm and then it idles normal. Could this be an idle control valve? Anyone have any more ideas before I give up? Thanks |

Ever figure this out? Think I am having a similiar issue -- Idle very erratic when you first start it up. How erraric varies from time to time.
