02 Sentra SE-R ECM
Independent garage said engine code shows a bad ECM. Could not get an appointment with dealer until next Friday. Any idea what the damage ($$) will be to replace the ECM?
Our son works for Denso and gets a discount on Denso-made parts. Have not contacted him yet. Is there any chance that this is something he could get. Thanks. cwilly8 |

Does the veh run? Is the ck engine lite on? A p0605 code is the ecm code and I've never seen it. Doesn't mean it never happens tho. If you can have the veh scanned again and let us know what codes were there. If that's not possible then the dealership should tell you what the code is. The ecm from a dealer can be spendy.

Three times in the last 10 days, while driving, the CEL has come on. Immediately the car is non-responsive to the accelerator - just goes to idle speed (fail-safe mode?). After the car is turned off, it restarts with no CEL and runs fine until the next time.

Could be and ecm but again see if any codes are stored in memory. If no codes are present after the ck engine lite was on then it probably is the ecm. Have someone that knows what they are looking at ck it. ECM's are pretty spendy so you want to be sure.

Codes retained after being read?
In a previous post, I mentioned that our 02 Sentra SE-R had, on three occasions in 10 days, given a CEL and the car went to idle speed. After restarting, it did not recur and the CEL went out.
She had the car checked by an independent garage and was told the code said it was an ECM failure. He recommended taking it to the dealer. Her appointment is tomorrow. The question is: Will the codes be retained from the previous failures, or would they have been reset when the independent garage read them? We don't want to spend $85 only to be told there are no codes present. Thanks, Craig |

The first guy would have had to erase the codes. Just checking for codes does not erase them. Hopefully they weren't erased so that someone else can diag the problem. If the ck engine lite came on at any point after the last guy read the codes then there should be codes stored in the memory. I know that is a blanket statement but if the ck engine lite is on or has come on after last checked and there are no codes stored then the ecm is suspect. Confused??? Hope not. Good luck and come back with what ever happened.

Many thanks. The CEL has not come on since last checked. She can perhaps call the mechanic and maybe he will remember what he did. He is just across the street from the Nissan dealer, too. Will post back with results.
