Exclamation [Help!] 2005 Nissan Sentra

So here's my story:

I have a 2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8S. Has about 40k miles on it.

I am currently having two problems:

[1] The other day as I was driving down the road, the car started to shake and was running really rough. When I let off of the accelerator it idled just a little more rough than usual, but as soon as I tapped the gas just a little bit it was extremely rough at lower rpm and seemed to smooth out just a little bit at higher RPM. After a few seconds of this it sounded literally like someone dropped a bunch of tools on the ground. I pulled over to see if I had lost anything but nothing was missing, nor on the ground where it happened. From this point on it sounded like my exhaust was a lot louder then usual. So I get home shut the car off, start it to take it to an exhaust shop in my area seeing as the exhaust got louder I assumed that's what it was. He takes a look, says it's something with the piece of flex pipe between my pre-cat and the cat. Tells me to take it to Nissan so they can cover it under the 8yr/80k emissions warranty. I haven't had a chance to bring it down to the dealer yet but, I'm not 100% sure that its an exhaust problem. I noticed that when I turn the air conditioner on that the "exhaust noise" gets much louder. I have a strange feeling that the noise is somewhere in the belt/pulleys region. The reason I have this hunch is that my belts were constantly squeaking, I had them checked by a few people, all said the belts were in good condition and that it was probably just moisture that was making them squeak. Along with this squeak was a very very slight clicking noise, also told this is normal. SO I let that go and just dealt with the noise.
Basically in short for this problem, I'm wondering if you have any ideas what this could possibly be.

[2] Another problem that has creeped up on me is a noise up under the front left of the hood near the wheel well. The noise only occurs at speeds above 30ish mph and it only occurs when I'm turning the wheel to the left. The noise sounds like a grinding/rubbing noise. I checked the wheels and they are not rubbing or grinding no matter where the wheels are turned to. The noise is pretty much the same loudness no matter how far I turn the wheel to the left, its just there or not. This one I do not have much more information on.
Again to sum up, just wondering if you guys have any idea what this could be.

I understand that I need to have these looked at by the shop, but I am just trying to get an outside opinion to see what it might be, see if anyone has had any similar problems, or if you have any suggestions to check to see what specifically my problem is.

Thank you for any help in advanced,
Cody

do u have a check engine light on, if so have it scanned at a local parts store like autozone. try jacking the side that is giving u trouble and try to shake the wheel side to side. grab it on top and bottom and shake it and then grab it by the left and right side and do the same and try other angles if it shake and has play its your wheel bearing. if it only does on one of the sides like when u grab it from top and bottoim it might be a suspension issue. check the axles and make sure not of the boots are damages and no grease that is around the boots.

No I don't have a check engine light. I'm not home at the moment, but when I get back I will jack it up and check. How much play are we talking about.. Like any at all or is there a certain tolerance range?

Thanks Again,
Cody

well it not supposed to wobble its only supposed to be going forward or backwords like when u are driving. just look around when u have it jacked an take a look at the parts going to the wheel inspect the shocks/struts and other suspension parts.

I gave everything a good look over. All the axle boots are good, no play from left to right or top to bottom. I turned the wheel through its full range, and at no point is the axle, steering arm, or axle hub rubbing against anything.

I didn't actually disassemble the wheel hub but I did jack it up to check for play but it had none as far as I noticed. Is it possible that there would be no play and the bearing still be bad?

your noise is most likely a bad strut bearing. i had to change one on my wife's sentra. i thought it was the strut, and when i took apart the strut, i saw the bearing was toast. i got a new from a dealer ($5) and put it back together and no more noise.

people think you are joking when you say strut bearing, but there is a small bearing underneath the mount on the top of the assembly.

Hmm, If it hasn't already been noticed, I know my way around a car a decent amount but I still have alot of gaps to fill. Just to clarify the strut bearing is in where the struts actually mount to the frame correct?

Also on a side note, If that's right why would that make a grinding noise when I was turning to the left?
