Default AWD Lock unlocks

2008 Rogue
If I set the AWD Lock and drive for some distance through slippery conditions I notice that the AWD Lock light goes out. I suspect that it might be that when it detects a slipping condition on startup from stopped that it clears the AWD Lock. All of this is with VDC on, however I've forced a slip condition that I would assume would enact the VDC, and the AWD light stayed on.

What's up with that? Why does the AWD Lock unlock?

You do not want to drive with the lock on. It is for if you get stuck. It only stays on for a short period. In the early muranos as long as the button was on the lock stayed on and blew up the transfer cases. DON'T USE THE LOCK UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED IT!

In the owners manual it states that if you have the awd lock engaged that it will kick off when you reach a certain speed. It doesn't say at what speed just that it will disengage. josh

I asked my dealer about this, and the guy said the lock disengages when you go over somewhere around 25km/h. it wasnt meant to stay on over that. it's only when u get stuck or something.. but usually the computer senses the tires are slipping and turns on all wheel drive anyways... u don't have anything to worry about.

Frankly I am yet to use the AWD Lock thru the past two winters, and I live in NY area. So worry not and let the CVT take control:)
