Default Nest in Rogue ventilation system

I've had a mouse nest removed from my 2008 Rogue blower motor twice. I drive the car every day. Like every other vehicle I've owned, it is parked outside but this is first vehicle to get a nest inside the ventilation system. Nissan Dealership and other owner posts indicate this is common issue with some Nissan models including the Rogue.

Does anyone know where/how they are getting into the ventilation system? There has to be an outside opening they are using to access the system.

They probably access the ventilation system by the fresh air door. You could probably cover the door with a wire mesh. To access the door you need to remove the passenger side cowl top cover.
