I have a 2005 Quest. When it is idling, a high pitch (kind of like whistle) noise coming from the engine compartment. I have tried various kind of engine oil, it is still there! any idea?

where should i start the inspection? air intake/air filter? where is the vacuum?

I hope nothing wrong with the timing chain tensioner - an expensive item to replace.

u should see it in the engine bay. have someone start it and have someone stand over the engine bay(make sure u dont wear nothing loose or anything else that might fall or get caught in the belt or fan) and see if u can pin point where the noise might be coming from the most.

The belts on that vehicle are on the passenger side. 2 belts, one for power steering and one for everything else.

I already brought them to a few Nissan Dealers, but they were helpless. for some reason i can only hear the noise in the garage (indoor), not outside. They were ignorant and just said it is fine and "no noise was heard". lol

when u took it to the shop did u just leave it at the dealer and leave , if so i would suggest that u get in with them when they inspect it so that u can tell them exactly the noise u are hearing and i guess try to do it in an enclosed area. it might be alright, u will hear some noises at start up aslong as it doesnt affect the car performance.
