'05 spark plug change
I'm about to hit 100k so it is about time to swap out plugs. I changed the 3 fronts with no problems, but I'm a little leary about the rear (bank 1). I have the proper tools and extensions, but I'm not sure I want to tackle it.
I'm going into the dealer next week to have the bank 1 converter replaced, so I hoped that they would be able to swap the plugs for me while in the neighborhood. They told me that there is no time overlap for the jobs and they want $300 + parts for the plug change (Cat is under warranty). My question is: Is it worth it to do it myself or pay the man? My time is worth $. |

Three hundred seem alittle hi but if you are not equiped and have access to a lift then bite the bullet and let them do it. It's not a hard job but can be alittle frustrating to do the rear plugs. Make sure the plugs are the same as the old ones or you will get to do the job again.Nissan only take NGK's and will not run properly on other brands.

300.00 is pretty crazy..... if you see a small mechanic shop, they should do it cheaper...... or look in your neighborhood for someone that works on their cars , they might do it just to be nice. but i will share my personal expirience.... changed all 6 spark plugs myself and months later all six where loose. i cant remember how warm the engine was but it happened. last week had mechanic change the spark plugs and we used that lubricant sold for spark plug installation..... 2 weeks later i heard a noice from engine.... took a 3 foot hose and placed it over the spark plugs.....2 of them had a thump thump .... with 100,000 miles i was concerned about a serious problem and found both spark plugs where loose..... so engine temperature is very important when changing spark plugs and removing parts to access the last 3 plugs can lead to future problems if not done properly...... after what happened to me i would not change them myself even though the mechanic made a small torque mistake.
