Same engine but tuned differently. Quest can run fine on 87 octane. For additional performance (not better gas mileage) you can run premium.

The Maxima engine is designed for premium gas. part of this is distinguish the Maxima as the premeire car in the NIssan lineup and to support its sports sedan image.

as bad as i despise ethanol my 07 and 01 will run fine on 87 with ethanol.
without ethanol the 07 need 89 oct. the 01 will run on 87 yr around.

supposedly all car engines are ok with ethanol 10%.. the 10% has destroyed some of my 2 cycle engines and the repair man says never to use it in 2 cycles.

The cheapest lowest ethanol % I can get. 10% ethanol 87 octane has hit the $3.40-$3.50 range here.

Don't know how I dug up this old thread.

Pheww..... In Hawaii the price dropped to $4.31 this week from $4.67 regular.

I use 87 with Chevron regular with Techron.

In the desert, we have to use a minimum of 89 to keep it from pinging and it can still happen under acceleration when the engine is cold - in the humid midwest, I couldn't get to ping if I tried while using 87

The other day, I filled up my second tank of gas since I had this car. Unfortunately, the gas mileage was very, very poor, as the car had a lot of tune up work to be done. I have not been able to check the mileage just yet to see if that improved things any remarkable amount or not. Like a dummy, I was not really paying close attention when I filled up the other day. I put in mid-grade and it cost me just over $60 bucks to fill the tank. I'll be using the lowest grade I can from now on though. I am anxious to see just how all the motor work did as to gas mileage on this tank though.

87. If I had to use anything more, I wouldn't have bought it. Been there. Done that. Vans shouldn't need anything higher than 87. That's my rule...

Wow this is an old thread.

Back on 2008 I used to use only 87, but now I used 87 for city driving and 91 when I drive long distance. I try taking long trips every other month and with the 91 octane gas it will help clean all the carbon deposits accumulated during the time I use 87 at low speeds.

here is a piece of non Quest information, which applies to all engines. It may come as a surprise to some that there is no difference in quality between regular and premium. The only difference is that the higher the octane, the greater percentage of longer molecules in the mixzture. With all things being equal, the higher octane burns more slowly than the lower octane. It is needed in higher compression ratio engines because increasing the compression speeds up the burning, and when it burns too fast you get detonation.
