Unhappy computer problems 2004 Quest

I have had problems with the main computer module and the power module. the main puter module is located in a spot that it corroated badly and then shorted out the power module . My van is not under warranty and I want to know if anyone else has had problems like this. I think its where its placed that made it go bad and the techs i have dealt with think so too and i feel Nissan should pay for repairs no matter what.

Until a Specialist replies...You might give 1-800-NISSAN1 and ask them for some Goodwill Assistance with your problem. If you call - please let us know how it goes...

The ecm is covered for 8 years/80,000 miles. Also your basic warranty on the 04 is 5 years/60,000 miles

To be honest , at that mileage it is almost impossible to get nissan to pay for an ecm.

Default ecm rust

Mine is also covered in rust and car will crank but not consistently start. Design is horendous - water drips directly onto casing.
Where can I confirm the 8 year/80,000 mile onn the ECM?

well good luck on that they told me that the mileage was too much and it was only 60,000 and the dealership gave me some money towards the repairs after they fought with Nissan to pay and nissan refused.. I showed them the ecm and the manager agreed it was bad but i still had to pay for half of the repairs ..

Default Computer Problems

I just recently had the same problems with my computer on my 2004 Nissan Quest. Sounds like it may be the same issue, module is lovated in a bad position and was badly corroded. My mechanic(private) called Nissan and they had him take it to their shop to verify the problem and replaced the computer under warranty. Apparently this is a known problem to Nissan, bottom line is my van works great and it cost me 0. Wouldn't hurt to speak to a dealer.

My 2004 Quest SE had recently started to idle and run rough about 2 months ago. We brought it to my mechanic and had replaced 2 ignition coils. After that it ran fine for about a month so we brought it back to my mechanic and he diagnosed 1 or 2 more ignition coils gone bad. When he tried to start the car it did not turn over.
To make a long story short, the car got towed to a Nissan Dealer and they said the ECM was bad and needed to be replaced. It was under warranty as my Quest is only 46000 miles on it. Anyway it is going on 4 weeks and they do not have the part yet.
One more thing, they are incinuating it was caused by my mechanic due to the fact there were a bunch of wires under the dash disconnected. My mechanic says he did not disconnect any wires. The only thing I can think of is originally, the dealer we bought it from had installed a dvd system and some things were not working in the rear control panel.

Default 2004 Quest ECM completely corroded

Sounds like this is a common issue with the 2004 Quest. My Quest just died over a week ago - it wouldn't start so I had it towed to my dealer and they found that the ECM was completely corroded. They said they had never seen anything like it before and given the location of it, they weren't necessarily surprised.

They ordered the part and said that the waiting list was over 40 people long - and I've been without my van now for over a week with no end in sight. Sounds very much like a major issue that Nissan was well aware of and never issued an official recall on. I also found the following article - ALERT - ECM Malfunction due to Premature Corrosion | Nissan Quest Forum Community - which talks about the problem as well.

Was anyone able to definitively get Nissan to cover the costs when it was outside the 60k warranty period? Any advice on how to best deal with this?

Thanks

Where is the documentation for this? I don't see this stated in the warranty manual anywhere and I've been told that it is outside of warranty. I would really appreciate it if someone could point to definitive documentation.

Thanks!

Hi nistec - can you point me to the documentation that states this 8yr/80k warranty? I have been unable to find it and have been told I am out of warranty.

Thanks!

Wow, I found it - this is great - from the 2004 warranty booklet under Federal Emissions:

HOW LONG IS THE DEFECTS WARRANTY
This warranty is for 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first. The warranty begins the date the vehicle is delivered to the first retail buyer or put into use, whichever is earlier. Additionally, the engine control module/onboard diagnostic device and catalytic converter(s) listed below and indicated by an “ ” under the caption “Warranty Parts List” are covered for 8 years or 80,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

I just called my dealer about this and they said that this warranty only covers internal defects to the parts...in this case, weather caused rust and corrosion and therefore this warranty doesn't apply. I'll continue my discussion with Nissan Consumer Affairs on this.

Then your dealer sucks. Have it towed to another dealer. My ECU failed on my Frontier and they replaced it for free. They're having Nissan USA pay for it (under warranty). My mileage was 79,500.
