2007 Nissan Quest SE
2007 Nissan Quest 150k I was driving my Quest last night and the engine all of a sudden quit. Spun like crazy but no start. Fuel gauge showed just under a quarter tank and the computer showed I had 64 miles to go so I didn't think it was gas, especially since I had seen it lower before. I had it towed to the shop, which was closed, then went and got some gas and put it in the vehicle-just to make sure. It started right up. Everything was fine, I went and filled it up. On the way home the vehicle began to make a NOISE like a vibration, but with no accompanying vibration, if that makes any sense. It sounded almost like a tire, which of course has nothing to do with a no-start. The engine seemed to be running fine. No service engine lights throughout the whole ordeal.
I have heard that you should replace the cam and/or crank sensors on these vehicles. Is it possible that one of these might be going bad, or maybe I picked up some trash from the tank when it was "out of gas"? Should I go ahead and replace the sensors as a matter of maintenance? On a side note, with the engine running there is a low growling sound like low power steering fluid but it isn't low. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any advice/help you can give. Have a good day! |

You may want to have the charging system checked. With the growling noise it is possible the alternator may be failing.

Thanks
I was thinking that or maybe the pump itself. I replaced one of the belts not too long ago and had a heckuva time with it, but I went back and checked it and it seems fine. The no-start apparently was due to no gas. The van has driven all day with no problems or strange sounds. I guess 64 miles to empty is now the NEW empty lol. Thanks again and have a good day.
