Tire Pressure Warning Lights

My 2007 Altima (2.5S) has had the tire pressure light go on nine (9) times! I have brought it into the dealer each time. They have replaced all the sensors and even reduced the air pressure in all tires to 10 psi and then refilled each. After each visit, the light stays off anywhere from two days to a month, then goes on again.

At this point, I am thinking that the problem is not in the snesor system but in the computer, since I also have my passenger air bag light go on and off intermittently. The dealer has been unable to solve either problem.

I am at my wit's end with this. I only have 4,500 or so miles on the car and am averaging about one dealer visit with every tank full of gas. :bot:

Anyone got any suggestions?

Try another dealer. Nine times is unacceptable, to repair a concern with the tire pressure monitoring system.

I read somewhere that the sensors trip below 35psi, and that if you keep the tires at ~37psi for a week without a warning, that's the issue. Apparently they won't reprogram the onboard 'puter for anything less. Make sure you pump the tires cold, or add another 2psi or so if already 'warmed up'. Check the sidewall of your tires to make sure you are not exceeding the max pressure during this test. As a side benefit your fuel economy will improve for the week :)

PS Oh, there was something about having to OVER inflate to 40+ PSI first and then back them off to prevent the trouble light coming on. So do your test...and then slowly bleed them back to 35psi if successful.

I agree with deeznuts, nine times is way too much. Techs get fired if the car comes back more that 3 times.

Pressure sensors are junk

I have the same problem on my 08 sedan (6 speed). We emptied and refilled the tires and the light stayed off for 3 weeks. We checked the pressure, all tires were at 37 degrees cold. We emptied the tires and refilled them again and the light stayed off for 2.5 weeks. What's even stranger, is that the first time I had OEM wheels and the second time custom alloys.

I am contemplating the solution I had seen elsewhere: Pull all the sensors out, put them all inside the spare and fill it up. Then you'll know when your spare is low.
