2002 altima stalling

I have an 2002 4 cylinder automatic 2.5s W/ 114k miles.
Only recall i havent done is the ECM reprogramming
codes: P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
P0725 Engine Speed input Circuit Malfunction
symtomes: cold start(mostly in the winter) it would take a couple of cranks to start.
lose of power while accelerating(more like a pause in power)
low speed cut off

is it the infamous crankshaft sensor that is the cause of all this

yeah u might want to do the recall/s first to see if that will change anything, have u changed the sparks out, have the battery checked at advance auto parts or autozone. the p0420 code is pretty hard to tell since it could be a leak in the exhaust, bad catalyc converter or a bad o2 sensor.

http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/altim...05-altima.html here is a link to a 2005 altima that has a p0725 code and u are right the crankshaft sensor needs to be replaced unless your car is good for the recall then u should do that first instead of buying it yourself.

u can do a search on here, just type the code, and u find alot of info on this. it says oil sometime gets in the sensor and messes it up. but they should havedone the reprogrram when u had the sensor put in. but have that done and let us know what happpens

well i just got the PO335 code yesterday(crankshaft position sensor). i dont think the dealer is going to replace it, so should i get this sensor from autozone or should i get the oem?

wood 09-03-2008 01:47 PM

got a P0300 code today(Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected) . that is a total of 4 codes. i hope the reprogramming of the ecm will fix all of this. havent got the chance to take it in since they said it be a few hours for them to do it.

sergey85 09-03-2008 02:05 PM

it should work the same

mpe235 09-03-2008 02:59 PM

DO NOT BUY THE AFTERMARKET SENSOR!!!!!!!!
They are using the old style sensors. You will end up with the same problems you are having now.

wood 09-09-2008 02:02 PM

ok guys finally got the reprogamming done yesterday and after 30 miles the light came on w/ po335 and after an additional 50 miles i got a po725. what gives?

sergey85 09-09-2008 02:40 PM

did they perform the crankshaft sensor recall already for u??

wood 09-09-2008 04:06 PM

i beleive i had them done a long time ago. when i went to the dealer recently all they said that had to be done was the reprogramming.

sergey85 09-09-2008 04:07 PM

well then u might have to replace the sensors or try to clear them and see if it comes back

2002 altima stalling

If you are getting the 420 code I would get yourself to a dealer and have your cat converter checked ASAP. I lost an engine on that one when the cat went and debris was sucked into the engine.

Hopefully not the case for you.

update

well i bought the crank sensor today and made the attempt to replace it myself today.wrong move .... a couple of the other threads Ive read trying to locate where this sensor is said you can get to it from the top of the engine, well i found out you could only access it from the bottom and its closer to the passenger side of the car, also it isn't a 10mm bolt but a 12mm. all in all i couldn't do the job because i didn't have enough clearance to even get the sensor out. its 1 thing to get your hand in there and loosen the bolt but to get the sensor out is a whole other mission. some type of vacuum line is in the way which calls for me to remove that. i will have to go at this another day. i will try to get some pictures up. if anything Ive said is incorrect please correct me!
