Electronic Digital COMPASS & Thermometer, 1997 Pathfinder, how to fix or replace?

4 Attachment(s)
My Compass/Thermometer display is no longer working. I have verified that it is not the fuse (#27 in fuse block), and that power (14V, pins 7(+) & 2(-,gnd)) is available at the connector. So the problem must be in the compass/thermometer module itself. So several questions:

1) How to open up this module, I just can't seem to pry it apart. I have read other places that may just some resistors need to be re-soldered, or I have thought maybe a bad capacitor. I would like to troubleshoot it, but can't get the plastic black enclosure box open. Any Ideas/techniques to use?

2) Possible to replace display module/LCD/LED? If you look at display in lower right, there is some discoloration, maybe indicating a back display light burning out on this chip. Does that seem right?? Can this display chip be ordered, where??

3) Has anyone opened up this module & fixed the display to work again? Are there simple capacitors or resistors that caused this to stop working?
I.e. is it worth my effort to try?? I've got time, I've been out of work for 4.5 years, so I got time, just no money.

4) Any ideas on where this whole module can be ordered, and not so expensive. It looks like Nissan lists this as "part# 24835 Digital Thermometer" on this website 248 Instrument Meter & Gauge :: Body Electrical :: Genuine Nissan Parts :: Pathfinder Parts (R50) 1996-2004 :: Nissan Parts, NISMO and Nissan Accessories - Courtesyparts.com

but when you link to the 24835 link at bottom it is called "Meter Assy-Temperature" or "Digital Temp Meter Assy" , and it costs $350.
So that seems HIGH priced to me, so doubting a little if its the right part, but that's probably just me being cheap & naive!

Any help/ideas would be really appreciated!!! I thank you in advance

It's expensive, but that's the right part. You might be able to find it a little cheaper at:
