Loose Fuel Cap Warning Message Reset
On 2011 MY vehicles (and beyond), a LOOSE FUEL CAP warning message will display if the fuel filler cap is not tightened correctly after the vehicle has been refueled.

Nissan and Infiniti vehicles are equipped with evaporative emissions leak detection. Some vehicles check when the engine is running, some check with it OFF, and some have both leak detection capabilities. Vehicles that check with the engine OFF natural vacuum (or EONV) will trigger the LOOSE FUEL CAP warning message to display after refueling the vehicle when the fuel cap is left loose or not tightened correctly. EONV works after at least 15 liters of fuel has been added and the vehicle has been driven for 10 minutes or more. EONV diagnosis takes about an hour, after the engine has been shut off. If these conditions occur, the warning message will then display when the engine is restarted. http://nissanhelp.com/diy/common/ima...-gas-cap-2.gif Vehicles that have leak detection while the engine is running, will turn ON the warning light after at least 15 liters of fuel has been added to the fuel tank (and the cap is left loose). As a result, the LOOSE FUEL CAP warning message will display shortly after fueling, while the vehicle is being driven. On vehicles equipped with both systems, (diagnosis while engine running/ and engine OFF), the loose cap warning message can be triggered by either leak detection method, depending on conditions. However, it does not matter how the vehicle is equipped or how the loose cap was detected; to turn OFF the LOOSE FUEL CAP message, perform the following procedure: 1. Remove and reinstall the fuel-filler cap straight into the fuel filler tube BEFORE DRIVING THE CAR AGAIN. http://nissanhelp.com/diy/common/ima...-gas-cap-3.gif 2. Tighten the fuel-filler cap clockwise (WITHOUT PUSHING) until it clicks. 3. Depending on the vehicle, push the trip computer mode switch, the INFO button, or the reset switch for about 1 second to turn off the LOOSE FUEL CAP warning message after tightening the fuel cap. http://nissanhelp.com/diy/common/ima...-gas-cap-4.gif Source: Nissan |
