Versa O2 sensor change
My service engine soon light came on and advanced says its the upstream o2 sensor...is buying a universal o2 sensor hard to replace D.I.Y.? the service manual also only gives instructions for installation of 1st o2 sensor and not the second...so i need to know if they are close together?

The upstream sensor is the front sensor and it's not difficult to replaced, but you need to have the correct tool to remove it. I suggest buying the aftermarket sensor with the connector that will fit your Versa.

1. Remove the engine cover.
2. Remove the heat shield. At this point it probably expose the upstream (pre-cat) sensor. From here, determine how much room you have, Try how easy to reach the sensor and with a socket wrench role play the removal process. This will give you an idea whether to remove the cowl or not. Also might need some lighting. Try to access from underneath also. COWL: You see that black plastic running from driver to passernger side at the base of windshield. And under your windshield wiper arm. To remove the arm, remove cover at the base and you will see the holding nut (12-14mm?). Be careful cowl is fasten with plastic clips to the metal under it. O2 Sensor Socket: Mostly likely 7/8" (22mm) 3/8" DR, $8-$9. O'Reilly and others have a loaner program. Just make deposit and you get it back when you return. Just like my Altima, NGK/NTK maybe OEM sensor on your car. Connector and anti-seize comes with it. Uninstall: Just pinch the release tab on the wiring harness side and it should come off. Whe connecting the new sensor, also pinch the release tab so sensor side of connector will just slide in and lock. |

Ideally clear the code with the scanner. Or disconnect your Neg. battery cable for at least 30 min. Or just keep on driving I think the MIL will turn off after three trip cycle when ecm don't detect a malfunction.

whole new issue
So i used the ECM steps to clear the code and the SES lights still on..took to auto zone and i got codes----P0031 o2 sensor (i just replaced) P0113 for Intake Air Temperature Circuit P0102 for MAF sensor and P1148 for Closed Loop Control (Bank 1) sensor..im so lost what is the MAIN problem? or do i need to replace everything?:furious:

After you install the O2, the MIL was on bcuz the code is still there. When you run the scanner the code is still there, ERASE it. Verify connector is tight and lock.
It's possible when you had the ecm scanned by auto zone that P0102 was there but unless you scroll the scanner you ain't gonna see it. Look for possible intake air leaks after the MAF. Be sure connection is tight. Fix 0102 and you'll fix 0113 and 1148. |
Where can i get the code erased? can i do it or does it have to be done at dealership? and if i replaced o2 sensor your saying the MAF needs to be replaced too?

I bought an o2 sensor socket but it appears the wall is to thick because of the flange that surrounds the upstream o2 can anyone point me in the direction of a socket that fits
