05 cooling fan not working

Heres the dealio - I've got a 2005 Maxima w/one cooling fan working properly and the other not (doesn't come on at all). It overheats at an idle, but cools once you start driving. So I changed the thermostat and flushed the fluids and I figured I would start with the cooling fan relay(s).

I called up the dealership and asked about prices for cooling fan relays and they said the relays are part of the IPDM and can't be removed and told me I'd have to replace the whole IPDM which requires a vin number to program the board and costs upward of $250.

Is this correct? can I not just replace one cooling fan relay anymore? any other suggestions that you guys can think of?

Thanks

Yes you can replace a single relay, that is coming from a shop that does not know what it is doing, however most likely will have to go to a junkyard, then use scanner and reset your trouble code, then unhook both battery cables, then pull old relay out just like a fuse, watch at this point, insure your reinstall replacement relay in the exact same fashion as the old one came out, or you are in for a whole separate set of problems, also you will need to consult bottom of relay to insure you obtain another relay with the same mv reading.

Did you ever fix the problem because my maxima has both fans not working.
