2001 Maxina Harmonic Balancer Bolt Removal
Did anyone replace a harmonic balancer lately?
I am having a hard time removing the bolt on my 2001 Maxima. I have tried just about all methods/techniques showed in Youtube.com and suggested in this forum (engine cranking, impact wrench, propane torch, extension bar, etc) and I cannot free that bolt. I tried either direction just to 'move' the bolt (assuming it's reverse-thread) but unsuccessful. It feels like the bolt is welded to the pulley. Any idea what else I can try? Does anyone know if there is a special or commercially available tool for this job/vehicle? Any input/suggestion would be appreciated |
Propane torch?? I never heard of that.
Unfortunately there is no special tool for the Maxima, we use and impact wrench or we hold the balancer with a chain and use an extension bar. |
you've never heard of using a propane torch?
give it a try if you have a seized bolt and penetrant isn't enough. Cold expands and heat contracts. Just make sure the area is free of gas, oil or any other flammables

I was supprised to hear that from Nissantech. In 'old days', before new gadgets/tools came out, that method was one of the best ways to free stubborn bolts & nuts.
At any rate, I had to cut a portion of the 'wing' of the bolt to remove. Does anyone know where I can get the new bolt? Can I get it from local auto store or is it a dealer item? |
