HELP--1997 Nissan Maxima with starter/ignition problems

Hi all, trying to visit family for the holiday (supposed to leave on Friday)...450 mile drive...starter was going bad, had to turn and turn and turn key to start...finally conked out...replaced starter...........now ignition switch is gone...it is to be repaired completely when I get there...so I'm not looking to have it fixed before I go...I just need a quick fix to make the trip....any suggestions?

Thanks!!

Hello

To remove the ignition switch, just remove the steering column cover. (see figure 1) With the covers removed, you can access the steering lock. With a small screw driver remove the to small screws holding the ignition switch to the back of the steering lock. (see figure 2)
