Default I think the dealer is scamming me

Took my '97 Pathy into the dealer, it has a noticable misfire and the CEL is on.

They scanned it and pulled P0300 and a knock sensor code, obvioulsy caused by the misfire, so I'm not worried about that one.

Anyway for the P0300, they say they want to put plugs and wires in it, no cap and rotor, just plugs and wires...... for $400!!!!!!

WTF??!!! The guy tells me that the plugs are $27 each!!! Wires are $100, which I can see, but $27 for a friggin plug???? And on top of that 3 hours of friggin labor, to do 20 minutes of work!! I've doen them myself before and even with the back plug on the VG33, it is a 1/2 hour job when I do it.

I got a set of NGK's at Advance Auto for $1.99 a piece.

How the hell can the dealer scam people like that?? I know they are more money, but that is a blatant ripoff!!

Does anybody know why they would be charging me that??

I am really let down by the dealer.

Thanks.

I think we charge $11-12 a plug, but that's here in Oklahoma. $27, definite scam. Sounds like maybe the parts manager has come over from either Porsche, or Mercedes with that price. And three hours for the job is a bit steep. Wait, are they hiring? I want to get 3 hours for plugs.

its the dealer no suprise why they charge twice as much for parts, labor and more when they try to sell u a car . maybe cause the technisions are certified or something like that but its no suprise. no wonder they are called the "stealership". u can find most of the info in the service manuals(here on this site) that have pic and info on how to do most of your stuff

I only said that because I worked for a parts guy who had come from a European import dealer. He told me all there parts were automatically "knocked up" 300% over cost. I guess they figure if your foolish enough to spend that kind of cheddar on a vehicle, 300% mark up is fair

Yeah I figured they would be more, just because it's the stealership, but $27 for a spark plug is INSANE!! And I don't even think it was for Platinum's.

Even if I was dumb enough to buy a German car I would think that was an insane price for a plug.

And when I told the guy that was nuts, he acted all smug like I was an idiot and didn't know how mcuh it costs to put plugs and wires in "cars these days", is what he said.

I told him, listen jerk, it's a 12 year old car,s o don't tell me about "cars these days", plus I have done the plugs myself like 3 times in it.

The whole reason people go to a dealer is because it's supposed to be a place where they know your vehicle and won't scam you like and independent will. And this place is telling me it takes 3 hours to put 6 plugs in and throw a set of wires on.

I know for a fact that book price for a brake job is 2.5, so how the hell is plugs and wires 3 hours, and how do regular NGK (which is what Nissan plugs are) cost $27 a piece????

I am friggin fuming over this.

Then what happens if it's not the problem, $400 for nothing???

I just put plugs and wires in like 20K ago, and he is telling me they are aftermarket plugs. I told him they are NGK and that's what he would put in, he says no Nissan plugs are different than NGK. C'mon!!!

Nissan plugs are definately ngk. We get about $12.00 each for the plugs and 1.5 hours labor, maybe another .5 for the wires.
