Got P0453 too on 40K 2006 Crew cab.
I reseted it, but it came right back.
Dealer said NO, not for free, out of warranty.
I am a bit handy and plan to do it myself.
Should I replace just a SU? or SU with FuelPump?

Thanks in advance
Igor
Just sending unit. It is fairly inexpensive, maybe around $50.00 compared to a couple hundred or more for the whole assembly.

I read this thread a few months back when I had an issue on my 05 Pathfinder with the sending unit - thank you b/c I was able to have a little knowledge when I called the dealer. At first the gentleman in the service dept. said it was not realated to the powertrain and would cost me around $600, when I asked why it would cost so much he said b/c they had to drop the fuel tank, which I was able to say then doesn't it fall under the powertrain warranty? He put me on hold for a bit and came back to tell me it was covered and that was according the the warranty person there (I made sure to get the name of that person - just in case). It was replaced that same week.

Default Fuel Level Sending Unit

Can the fuel level sending unit be separated easily from the fuel pump? I'm getting ready to replace my 05 pathfinder sending unit. Dealer quoted $99 for part.

I'm going to be trying this on Monday. Since my 2005 pathfinder reached 44K, SES light came on and stayed on at the same time that the fuel gauge no longer works! Dealer has already quoted upwards from $400 over the phone. I'll try the powertrain warranty argument.
This seems to be a very common problem. Why no recall?! Until this issue, I've been a loyal Nissan customer, might have to change my loyalties!

The fuel level sensor is not covered by the powertrain warranty. The fuel pump is covered by powertrain warranty. The dealer that did the repair thinking it was powertrain coverage will not get reimbursed for the repair from nissan. This is from the nissan warranty manual:

I have 06 Path finder and the fuel sending unit went out as well at 41,000. Dealer replacement is 489.00. I will call nissan to report and see if they will honor goodwill fix. Seems alot of this is ongoing so all needs to call and report to force some sort of recall.

A call to the BBB would probably do more good than calling nissan.

Hi there. New to the forum but wanted to chime in saying my '06 pathfinder fuel level sender went bad last month at 46k miles. I paid $405 to get it fixed. Previously, my tire pressure monitor went bad but was fixed under warranty. Now today, my driver seat recliner button stopped working. This is my 3rd Nissan. I had a frontier and a sentra before and had no problems with them at all. Drove both to over 150k miles and never had to fix a thing besides regular maintenance. I am getting very frustrated with this. I think Nissan may have lost me as a customer.

It's not just nissan. All of the manufacturers are looking for ways to cut costs when building vehicles. Unfortunately they are using inferior parts as a result. The old saying "they don't make them like they used to" is absolutely correct.

That's unfortunate. I expect things to start wearing out after a while but an '06??? That's just ridiculous for such a nice vehicle with all the "bells & whistles".

I just took my 2006 Frontier Nismo 4X4 in to have new tires and an oil change and on the way there I filled up with gas and my check engine soon light came on. The dealer told me it was the fuel level sensor and it would cost me $463.00 to fix it. I told him there was no way I was going to pay that much money when the truck was only 2 1/2 years old. He said sorry, and he would make the repairs free if I would buy a new Frontier from him. I told for what so I can come back in two years with the same problem and get another $400.00 bill, no thanks! It looks like I may have to call and complain also. My wife drives a 2003 Hyundai that has given her zero problems and it's got 70,000 miles on it.

Question FSU

Just happened to my '05 Pathfinder on Friday, Aug. 1. Vehicle had 35,896 miles on it. Went directly to dealer who of course couldn't look at it that day. Had to set appointment for Tuesday, Aug. 5 at which point I was over 36,000 miles and after a 2.5 hour wait, dealer charged me a $99.00 "diagnostic" fee and refused to cover under "good will" warranty. Am in process of sending letters, emails and phone calls back and forth to local, regional and NissanUsa. My immediate family has purchased 6 Nissans in the past 3 years. I guarantee that they will be the last 6 we purchase.

Default Recall info regarding Fuel Sender Unit

Just got off the phone with Malerie at ext. 47101 at the Corporate office I think (615-725-1000). My fuel sender unit also went bad on my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. It's not covered under warranty but Malerie said that if I do get it repaired (either at the dealership or an independent mechanic) that if there is a recall in the future, they will rehimburse me for my cost to get it repaired. I just will have to take it to a dealership so they make sure that the repair was done to clear it from their system. Then keep the work order, credit card reciept, etc. Called the dealership to check on the price to get it replaced- it's going to cost $96.72 for the part, $246.00 for the labor and $22.01 for an O-ring. The fuel sending unit is inside the gas tank also (not under the 2nd row seat like some models) so it's more difficult to do at home.

I have an 04 with 35k miles and they replaced the fuel tank sending unit this last week. They did this under warranty and they did drop the fuel tank. I dropped a fuel tank in earlier models and it's no big deal. I would rate it a 2 where a engine change is 10, clutch change is 5, timing belt a 5. Just remember to do it with very little gas so you don't have to deal with the weight.

BTW, the engine check light will go on when the sensor malfunctions.

Hey, 'hshirey' what happened to you is BS. Find another dealer; they might treat you better.

Regards,

Ken
