Ironic. I got a call today (March 19) from Nissan regarding the letter I wrote on February 8. Nissan said they will be contacting the dealership and will follow-up w/ me by Monday, March 24. The person on the other end of the line asked me how many Nissans I have owned (4) and how many dealers I have contacted about this issue (2). Congrats, and I'll definately follow-up with the group.

First of all, a great website- no fluff, no "baby" pictures- just unvarnished info. Have had the same level sender problem and symtoms described by the others, and followed pretty much the same path with Nissan. Called Customer Service in Tenn, got a sypathetic ear from the CSR but she said she couldn't do much for me and would refer my complaint upwards- I would get a call back within 24 hrs. Was asked where I had my service work done- I replied that I do all my own routine maint and have not had to take the truck to the dealer for any other repairs. I DID get a call the next day from another CSR, this time in Ontario, Can. Basically went over everything again. Again I was asked where I had my service work done- the inference I got was that if you were willing to plunk down nearly $100/hr (NJ labor rate) to have work done that you could do yourself, they would throw you some kind of a discount on the repair work, no they won't step up and fix the problem on their dime. The estimate I got from Lynne's Nissan West in Stanhope NJ (where I bought the truck) was $530 with 6 hrs downtime and no service loaner. My local mechanic will be getting this job- he's charging $320 and the truck will only be laid up for 3 hrs.
I will be holding on to the job ticket and receipts in case there is a recall, maybe I can get reimbursed. I will also be filing a complaint with the NTSB- if enough people do this, they may force Nissan to issue a recall. Lynne's dealerships ( Nissan & Subaru) will not be getting any more of our business. This is my 2nd Frontier, put 197K on my 2000 4X4 Crew Cab and had an overall good experience. Aside from the sender problem, I'm very pleased with the current truck. 80-85 MPH without breaking a sweat. Have 67K on it (lots of trips to VT, hence trhe name "GMX"). Helluva way to treat a return customer! Last edited by GreenMtnXpress; 04-26-2008 at 05:27 AM. Reason: add-on |

I still have not received any assistance from Nissan on my fuel level sending unit after writing a letter to Nissan CEO, speaking with numerous assistants, spending a day at the dealership, etc., etc. I consider it a game now. I call every weekday morning and leave a message for someone named "Nozoma" at Nissan North America. She has told me for more than three weeks that the regional rep is on vacation and she can't get him/her (I need to get a job with Nissan if I can take 4 week vacations!). Also, in the time frame since my earlier post, the CD player has stopped working and the driver side rear power window is broken. I was once loyal to the Nissan brand.... but never again.

With all due respect to those, new and not-so-new, to NissanHelp, if you would take the time to read the entire thread you will see exactly how several others HAVE successfully had this issue resolved at no cost to them. While calling and dealing regionally and locally is often useful, it has proven to be ineffective in this matter.
I will repeat my advice that has worked for me as well as others who have written to me both on the board and via private e-mail: write a letter to Carlos Goshen (check spelling first, I may recall it incorrectly) the president and CEO of Nissan North America. His name and address is in an earlier post from me. Tell him your problem and tell him you are now thinking twice about future Nissan products due to this issue and ask for some assistance in getting this fixed to help restore your faith in Nissan. It took some time to hear back but all of us got a call from an admin assistant to Carlos who then followed up with the regional folks who then follow-up with the dealers. As for strategy, no one is a more central point than Carlos in this. I did offer to share my letter with a couple of folks whotook me up on it; offer still stands. Regards, MassPathy |

The request to repair my fuel level sending unit has been denied by Nissan. I will be contacting the NTSB. Just to let everyone know, I was always polite, expressed my Nissan loyalty, wrote the CEO (twice), explained in the second letter I might think about another brand next time, etc. etc. Hope you all have better luck than I did.

After several months of dealing with Nissan I finally got my truck repaired. Of course I had to pay for it but at least it’s done. I too tried all the tricks that have been listed in this thread (I did read the entire thread) but I think it boils down to the simple fact that I perform my own maintenance. I finally bought a fuel pump from a local LKQ recycler for $50 and paid $140 to have it installed. It’s been in for about three weeks and everything is working great. The $190 I paid to have the entire fuel pump replaced was less than half of what the dealer quoted. I’m just glad it’s done and over with. If anyone else is interested in this route LKQ has a great web site LKQ Home where you should be able to find the parts you need. Good Luck!!!

I'm a newbie here, came to know the site because of my DTE problem. When I fill up the tank it will not register a level change right away when the vehicle is started either. what is wierd is that today it showed half a tank, then sometime in the next 15 minutes I looked down and the warning light was lit and it showed empty and DTE ----.

I also have a issue with the sending unit on my 95 pathfinder. It is going to cost me at least $500 to fix it at the dealer who told me that they have to drop the fuel tank in order to fix it. Sounds pretty complicated from the way he described to me. I already spend $500 just to replace one of the CV boot. So the repair on the sending unit will have to wait.

Thank you mpe. Now why is it the technician told me that they have to drop the tank and loose the hitch that is blocking the tank in order to get access to the sending unit. No wonder it is going to cost me $500 with this amount of work they have to do.

I wrote on another thread about this fuel sensor issue. Mine is a 2005 Frontier quad cab and I bought it as soon as they hit the lots with the new design. I wrote my letter to Mr. CEO about my fuel sensor problem. A number was opened up and three weeks of evaluation they denied doing the repair under their cost. I'm writing a second letter that will be loaded!! I will clearly show my displeasure yet professional as well. Doesn't the fuel pump at the auto store come with the sensor as a complete system assembly? I'm not sure why Nissan is taking apart an assembeled fuel pump "system" and making the customer pay for their original defective part???? Could this be a class action law suit down the road? Are Nissans Lawyers on their toes about this? I'm pretty ticked about Nissan putting in defective parts in the trucks and not standing behind the repair. In fact, I'm getting a new truck soon and it till not be Nissan but the Tacoma ........ forget Nissan.

Sounds like this is a common problem. I have an 06 Pathfinder and seems as if I should have my own garage at the dealership, for as many times as I've had to visit there, due to problems with this SUV. I read where there was a major recall of light trucks and SUVs for the fuel sending unit a few years ago for models 03 and olderd? So why would there still be issues with newer models? I have just had the fuel pump and sender unit replaced a few weeks ago, now AGAIN, having the same issues!!! I have just under 47K miles...hmmmm....must be a magic number. Unlike a lot of you, I have had extremely good luck with my dealership taking care of the costs. I believe I've had the fuel sending unit replace 2 times, now going in for my 3rd. I have expressed great frustration in a calm and respecful manner, and have been offered a loaner next time I go in to get this unit replaced. I believe I was told there was a parts warranty after the first one went south. I think it's utterly irresponsible of Nissan Corp to deny it's customers of this repair for free. We all know that these vehicles are not cheap, and to have these type of issues after only 40K miles, is unacceptable. In addition to the FSU problem, I have had nothing but issues with my tires as well. They're the standard tires that came on it when I bought it brand new with less than 10 miles on it...BF Goodrich Longtrail Radial T/A's....granted we live on a gravel road, so I know that contributes to my issues, but seems monthly my tire pressure light goes on? Anyone else having issues? Good luck to those of you that in the same boat.....
