Default Desperate Need of Help

Hi All, I am in desperate need of help here!

I have a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder SE MT 4x4

I need a new Instrument Cluster that has the SQUARE odometer (not the rectangular)

I live in Costa Rica and can't find one in entire country (used)

Mechanic says:

  • Years 2000-2004 will work
  • Tranny type makes NO DIFFERENCE
  • Trim makes no difference (LE, SE)
  • ONLY THING that is IMPORTANT is it must be for a 4x4
  • Even a cluster from a Maxima which looks identical will work

Q: Is he right on 1 or all counts?

I ask because finding a 2000 is really hard and EXPENSIVE

The later models 2001-2004 are easier to find more reasonable

Like I said, I live in Costa Rica so whatever I buy and have shipped here, I am stuck with if it doesn't work. And though I trust my mechanic very much (he has yet to let me down), I am quite weary of his comments (maybe because I know NOTHING about cars).

PLEASE give me your advice and answers to my q's. I'm under the gun to buy one as I have a friend coming down next week who can bring it to me.

Thanks a bunch.....

Adios..

there are probably others as well
I "googled" repair Nissan instrument cluster
that way, there's no question about compatability

Well we did that 2 times and he said that each time he repaired it it would not last long. It was a temp fix. So now it is toast. Also, there are hardly ANY places down here that do that kind of work. Nissan dealer said they would do it for us for what would amt to a mortgage payment (exaggerated, but close). Anyway, I have spoken to several parts people on the phone and we are on track. He was right. Pulled the trigger and purchased one in the States for $100. Great deal considering Nissan wants $1100 for a new one.

Thanks for the advice though. I'm off!
