Default The smell of gas

Hey guys,
I'm new here. I found you guys by googling another problem I had. I hope you can help me solve this one without spending too much!

2001 Pathy LE. Symptoms:
I smell gas coming from what seems to be the rear left corner of the vehicle. NO SES light. I can smell it whenever the car comes to a stop, even at red lights (with with window down). But no smell after parking overnight (before the car is driven).

My thoughts are either faulty purge valve (stuck open) even when it thinks it's closed. Or just a bad EVAP charcoal canister.

Note, I replaced the charcoal canister in 2004 (SES light came on then), when it was a few days out of warranty Dang! Could it have gone bad again? What do you guys think? I don't want to spend another $400+ to get it replaced if it's not the cause.

Could be the canister, but you should check the fuel tank hoses as well. Unfortunately I haven't had any problem with gas smell on the Pathfinder and there are no service bulletin for that problem either, but there is an old recall for the fuel filler. Thanks Nissan Tech,
I did have the fuel filler tube changed a 2 maybe 3 years ago by the dealer.

I didn't small gas after they installed it, but I'll check the hoses and connections this weekend.

Default Recall still valid?

I have a steady gas leak after filling the tank - lasting until I drive the vehicle so it consumes at least a gallon or so - then there is a faint smell still, but no noticeable leak dripping.

The location is driver-side, right in front of the rear wheel, which is exactly where the fill tube connects to the tank.

Will Nissan still honor this recal regardless of the age of the vehicle?

If not, what would be the approximate cost to repair?

Yes, if is within the VIN range, Nissan should honor the recall.
