2005 power steering pump
98% sure the pulley is squeeling and not sure if i can change just the pulley or have to replace the whole power steering pump. it is gettign worse but gets bad after a lot of moisture in the air but tends to dissipate after 20 minutes of driving. any ideas if it is the bearing?

while squealing, at idle, you might try spraying some water onto the power steering pulley and belt to see if the noise changes (WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES!!!) also, there is a technical service bulletin (NTB06-072a) regarding belt noise and power steering pump pulley alignment (2005-2007 models) service bulletins can be accessed at the lower left corner of this page |

i would remove the belt (make a diagram to re-install) and check for a worn bearing. i have replaced one bearing.

If you have an aftermarket belt, try a new nissan belt.
I went through 3 gates belts with the squeal, before I went back to the oem belt. It's been quiet ever since |

did you check the service bulletin to see if it's related to your problem? it was a common problem in 2005 andrewdavid is also absolutely correct aftermarket belts do not seem to work well on these trucks......... |

I had the tensioner replaced a long time ago so that is not it. I am going to pick up a new belt this weekend and throw it on. There will be days when the car does not squeel like today for instance. it was cold last night in the 40's and this morning. once i started driving it i pulled into dunkin donuts and the squeel was a little noticable but not bad. i'm thinking worn belt? it didnt look that bad when i previously looked at it.

I have not checked the pulley alignment yet....not sure why it would get out of alignment. this issues started a few months back and had progressed. the belt is OEM. was replaced at about 30K miles and I know have 73K miles. so roughly 43K miles on the new belt

i think it's fairly easy to check, but said to be a PITA to adjust the bulletin has info for both a new belt after 43K probably isn't a bad idea anyway |

just got home and put car in garage to change oil. looking at the belt i put my hand/ fingers on it and push and there is a lot of play in it and the tensioner (which is the new one) moves...should there be this much play in the belt?

The belt should be pretty tight. Moves how? wiggling in the tension direction, or alignment direction? Neither are good.

pushing it straight down, not pulling it side to side but straight down it has a lot of play as well as tensioner pivoting
