Pathfinder stalliing out
I have a 1999 pathfinder that runs rough and stalls out at idle when warm. When cold, it starts up fine and runs without any issues but after driving it for 30 mins, it will stall out when at idle. It feels like the engine is missing as the car bucks and chokes whenever the rpms drop below 1000. There is no power loss issues once you are driving and the engine doesn't feel like it is missing when you give it some gas.
It was so bad that we couldn't get out of the driveway without it stalling. I took it into the shop and had the MAF sensor replaced as well as the spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter. This seemed to work for a bit but the problem came back and my mechanic has no idea what the cause is and is racking up a huge bill for me. I've seen similar posts on the internet and am hoping that someone may know what is causing this and can help stop my suffering and that of my bank account. Thanks |

Is the engine light ON? are there any codes stored in the Engine Control Module?
There is a service bulletin for a similar problem. The bulletin suggest performing an injector flush to clean the injectors. You should try that. You can download the bulletin from here: Knowledgebase - 1999 Pathfinder - Nissanhelp.com Forums

The check engine light is not on anymore. It was when I took it in and the codes said to replace the mass airflow sensor which we did. The stalling went away for a while but has come back and is getting worse. The stalling also seems more frequent in the rain. I will take it in later this week to have the injectors cleaned and see if that helps.
Thanks for the help and please let me know if you think of anything else. |
