Question tachometer 1994 Pathfinder manual transmission

 My Tachometer does not work properly. At times it doesn't register, other times it is erratic and the needle bounces all over the scale from 0 to onto the post, other times it appears to be fine.
I think I might have a short or a bad ground but I can't find the wiring diagram to trace the wires.
I have been told the sending unit is on the cam shaft and I have also been told it is on the transmission.
What I need to know is where the sending unit is located and if it is on the transmission which connection as there are several.
The wiring diagram so I can trace it from the sender to the tach.
Where the ground is located.

Bad tachs are a fairly common problem. The usual fix is replacement of the tach itself. You might try removing the gauge cluster and making sure the screws for the tech are all tight and that the needle is not touching the face of the gauges.

Actually, there are a few FSM downloads available here for a WD21, but most of the other downloads don't work anyway. I've had complaints recently.

IIRC, the ECU interprets engine speed by reading info from the crank angle sensor inside the distributor, but unless you have an ECU error code for that sensor I would seriously just look at the tach itself. From what I've heard, 99% of the time it's simply the piece of crap tach not working and not the sensor it gets signal from.

You can download a FSM from phatG20.net, try that. The 94 and 95 are the same.

Not the complete thing, and apparently you can only download one section per day here.

I have attempted to download the electrical and engine service manuals and keep getting a msg advising I do not have sufficient download abilities. How can I access this info or get sufficient space to do so.
