I had a similar problem, and the solution was the fuel pump relay. Although more test needs to be done to properly diagnose the problem, its worth trying a new relay. The relay is only about $20 and its very simple to replaced.

No you would not. When it is cold the water that entered the relay shorts the relay and preventing power supply to fuel pump. The relay is located behind the left rear trim in cargo compartment.

Is the left side the driver side?
Could this also happen if it has recently rained and maybe some water got in there? It has not been cold enough to freeze yet this year and the problem happened to me the other morning which is a few days after we got some rain and the temps dropped to about 50F. When I turn the key the engine turns for about 2 seconds but does not fire, then, everything stops moving under the hood, but I still have power everywhere in the cab. There are no clicking sounds from the starter. I have power everywhere. |

Looked at the fuel pump relay this weekend. Everything looked good. However; there was a fuse for the fuel pump beside the relay, and when I pulled out the fuse to check it there was a lot of oxidation on the fuse. I cleaned it up and replaced it. I have not had any starting problems, yet. I will update if it happens again.

OK. I ran to CVS last night. When I got back in I had a hesitation of the engine turning over during start up. So, the problem is still there even after checking the fuel pump relay and fuse. Are there any other suggestions. I have had the battery checked and there is not problems there.

I have another update. First I need to appologize to NissanTech. I only looked at the relay for the fuel pump thinking there would be something obviouse, but there was not. I switched the fuel pump relay in terminal 1 with the fog light relay (they are the same) and I have not had any problems since, about one week. We have had warm, cold, rainy, and a mixture of each during the passed week, so I should have had the problem.
Thanks for the help NissanTech. According the the wiring diagrams, the fuel pump relay should not have been a problem, but apparently it was. I ordered a new one from NAPA for ~$21 vs ~$47 at Autozone. Thanks again for the help. Note: I placed the "bad" relay in for the fog lights until the new relay is in, and the lights still work. Is it possible for a relay to work most of the time and only malfunction intermittently? |

I still have the problem.. I have changed both fuel pump relays. My next move will be to replace the Park Neutral relay. If that does not work, then I will just replace the starter/starter solenoid. I am replacing the cheap stuff first. The relays are ~$20 each, but the starter w/ solenoid is $330, parts only.
