It seems that this is a recurring problem. I'm 6k out of warranty with the same issue. Happened while I was driving. If anyone has the email address of a senior exec I'd appreciate getting it.
I was treated so badly this morning by one of Nissan's reps I was shaking when I got off the phone. In this economy you would think that they would step up and help their existing customers. My lease is up in six months. If this isn't rectified its going to be hard for me to go back to Nissan. |

As far as I know all of them use a similar design on the seat frame.

I guess I'm in the same boat as everyone else. I have a 2006 Murano S that has 36,800 miles and is 1 month outside of my warranty. I got in my car yesterday and noticed the seat was wobbly all of a sudden. It turns out I need a replacement drivers seat track assembly. The dealer quoted $820 to replace and install.
My service adviser applied online for Nissan Goodwill Coverage, but the automated online system declined. Now I'm waiting to hear back from a Regional Nissan Rep about a reconsideration. I'm going to tell him though that based upon my research it appears this is a defective part that should be replaced regardless of the fact my car is barely out of warranty. We'll see what happens... |

Just reported this to the NHSTA as a safety complaint. They report that they have received 60 such complaints and are investigating.
Everyone who has not filed a complaint should, maybe they will issue a recall and you can recoup some of the money spent on your repairs. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ From the NHSTA site: ODI HAS RECEIVED 60 CONSUMER COMPLAINTS REGARDING FAILURE OF THE LEFT REAR ANCHOR OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT, INCLUDING 21 INCIDENTS THAT OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING OPERATED. FAILURE OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT ANCHOR BRACKET/MECHANISM MAY RENDER THE SEAT FRAME UNSTABLE OR TILTED, AND POTENTIALLY REDUCE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF OCCUPANT PROTECTION FEATURES DURING A CRASH. IN ADDITION, SUDDEN TILTING OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT DURING VEHICLE OPERATION MY CONTRIBUTE TO A LOSS OR COMPROMISE OF VEHICLE CONTROL. A PRELIMINARY EVALUATION HAS BEEN OPENED TO ASSESS THIS ISSUE. So Nissan actually agreed to replace my seat bracket because I was just barely over my Warranty (36,600 miles) and was 2 weeks past my 36 months. They called it a "Good Will Replacement" - I called it a justifiable replacement.
So, of course they had to order the seat because it wasnt in stock. When they got the parts and installed the new seat track, my driver's seat sat a good 2-3 inches higher than previoulsy. I asked the service advisor about it and he said it could not be adjusted. I took a look at the replacement hardware under my seat and realized they installed a different part (wait, so Nissan claims this seat track is not defective, but when they replace them they replace with a newer seat track rather than the old ones which break...) After driving around scraping my head on the top of the cabin for a week, I complained to the service manager who asked me to come in again. Turns out the new seat track they gave me was intended for newer model Muranos that have an up/down control (my seat controls only allow front/back and recline). The technician was able to give power and control to that function to lower my seat. Now my seat track is fixed and my head doesnt touch the roof, so all is good, but this is definitely a defective part and Nissan needs to come clean and acknowdege it as such! |

I purchased Nissan Gold Preferred with new 2007 Murano.
On checking it says seat tracks and motors are covered. But of course this all seems to change when you have to make a claim. Like the squeaky brakes, sorry.. not our problem!

My driver's side seat also broke on my 2005 Murano this weekend. I took it to the dealership this morning and they told me it was covered by my extended warranty; I only have to pay the $50 deductible. It needs a new seat slide assembly. It is suppose to be fixed tomorrow.

My seat also recently broke, NISSAN denied claim (of course) and I have placed another complaint with the DOT. The DOT closed an investigation in July 09 saying among other things they haven't found injuries caused by this problem...sure, who in its right mind would keep the seat unrepaired to allow for the DOT to find people have been injured? Action number PE08065.
I am getting it repaired myself or through someone else who could either replace the part that broke or weld it back in place. I I am also planning to make a stink of this...in the meantime, DO NOT BUY NISSAN. This has been my first and last of their stuff I bought. |
