Hello

DTC P0171 (BANK 1), P0174 (BANK 2) FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM FUNCTION
(LEAN)

Possible Cause:
- Intake air leaks
- Heated oxygen sensor 1 (front)
- Injectors
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Lack of fuel
- Mass air flow sensor

You can find the location of the O2 sensor in this document:

I had this code. The meaning of this code is that one of yours oxygen sensors doesn't work. It's not big deal to replace it. Be careful to do it while engine cold. Oxygen sensor price is about ~100$.
Have a good luck.

Default Po171 & Po174

This means both banks are running lean. I tried cleaning MAFS, but it did not work. You need to replace MAFS, clean out air box, and new Nissan air filter. You may also need to have computer reprogramed for sensor.

There is an updated airflow meter for this vehicle part #22680-2y001. Replace it and have the ecm reprogrammed. The new sensor requires different programming to operate correctly.

why does the ecm need to be re-programed?

How does the ecm know that. I can understand that you have to clear out the codes, but why does a dealer have to re program the ecm.

They have changed the sensor. Basically by reprogramming the ecm you are telling it that you have installed an updated air flow meter. Think of it kind of like your computer at home. If you install a dvd burner you have to install software for it to operate properly. It will work to read cds without the software but if you want to use it for it's designed purpose you have to update your computer so it knows what to do with it.

well OK, but I still think that it is a costly thing that only a dealer can do.

Default P0171 Code

Hi. I am having the same problem except this code keeps showing. I have changed 2 02 sensors plus some transmission sensor... when I plug my scanner in I also get a I/M status with everything ok except Catalyst and Evap system. Is there some thing you can suggest as I have changed gas cap aswell. Thx

Default More O2 problems

I have a 2001 Maxima Se. The check engine light has come on and off for a couple years. The first time the mechanic replaced the ignition coils. Took about 100 miles for the light to go off. It came back on about a month later. This time it was the Air Mass meter. The light came on a few months later. I waited until inspection time, and this time I needed the entire catalytic converter assembly replaced. It's back on again. I'm getting code P0171. Which I know is bank 1 O2 sensor. It doesn't make sense that all these things keep needing replacement so soon after something is replaced. Is it normal to have such a train reaction? I totally trust my mechanic, and I only have 95K mi on the car.
