PO code 128 Faulty thermostat on 2003 Max
03 Max with 132,000K. Several weeks ago I noticed a ticking sound coming from the engine, I immediately checked the oil level it was fine. However, I noticed that the coolant reservoir was nearly empty, not sure when or how that happended as I always check the drive way for any leaks. It took about a half gallon to bring the reservoir back to max level.
Today as I was driving home on the highway the SES light came on. The code is PO 128 Faulty thermostat, engine coolant level low. The coolant reservior has stayed at max level since. The temp guage has stayed in the normal range. Any suggestions on what to trouble shoot first would be greatly appericiated. |

If the coolant level is OK and there are no leaks, then the problem is most likely the thermostat. The ticking noise may not be related to the coolant system problem, but I suggest starting by changing the engine oil.

Thank you for responding so quickly. Any idea of how much it should cost and how long it takes to replace the thermostat. Also are there any other parts or services like flushing the radiator that I should consider as preventive maintenance?
