Default 2003 Maxima SE

About 6 months ago I started hearing a metalic rattling noise from the undercarriage. It is an internittent noise but occurs most frequently between 30 and 40 miles an hour or at low RPMs. I took it to the dealership and they said it was the heat shield. They removed the heat shield and said the problem was fixed. Unfortunately, 3 months later the noise is still there and is ocurring more often. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any suggestions? THX

if you go to the muffler and move it up and down, do you hear the noise? if so it might be the insulator that is connected to the exhaust pipe has came loose. it is welded on. pu tit on a lift and u can see.

Default 2003 Nissan Maxima SE Rattling Sound / Noise

Yes, i have the same problem with my 2003 Maxima SE manual tranny. My mechanic says its the fuel i put in, but i only use the highest grade octane and only name brand gasoline, like Shell 91 oct. and sunoco 94 oct. so i dont belive this is the cause.

The rattling sound im getting only happens when the car is in gear and between aprox 1700 rpm and 2000 rpm. The rattling gets louder when the car has more load, like when im going up a slight hill and stuff like that. At the begining my mechanic also told me it was the heat shields and so on, but im sure its not ( i even removed the heat shields ). I also noticed that when i shut the car off, again this rattling occurs briefly.

Could this problem be caused by the Cam. Position Sensor. could this be screwing up the timing or something. Someone out there please help.
