Default What are the Best Ways to Remove Wire Harnesses & Protector Near Starter (00 Model)?

Dear fellow forum participants:

How are you? I am in the process of replacing a starter for a Nissan Maxima 00, which is at the current stage (please see attached photo). There a few remaining steps:
1. Removing the wiring harnesses above or near the starter fixated with circular or square clips or a protector (see blue arrows in the photo).
- These clips & protectors are plastic, appear to be easily breakable, & are not easily removable so far. The harnesses in the middle are attached to vehicle body' metal upward protrusions.
2. Disconnecting the starter solenoid connector, which is underneath the wiring harness in the photo's middle (with 3 blue arrows)
3. Then moving the wiring harnesses away from the starter's 2 bolts, so the bolts are more accessible & can be removed.
4. Install the new starter.
5. Reinstall & reattach all the removed or detached parts.

Questions
1. What are the best ways to remove these clips & protector without breaking them? For a few, can they be detached by removing a nearby bracket?
2. What are their exact parts names & numbers? They appear to be installed by the original equipment manufacturer(OEM), but I have not found these exact parts for sale in 2017.
3. What do you think are acceptable alternative replacement parts?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I think you are overthinking it. All they are is plastic clips to secure the harness to the bracket. Yes, they may break due to their age, but, if they do, just secure the plastic clips by installing a plastic tie strap around them. As far as the brown harness connector, I use a small, flat-blade screwdriver to depress the tab to release it and then pull the make connector out.

Default What are the Best Ways to Remove Wire Harnesses & Protector Near Starter (00 Model)?

Dear smj999smj:

Thank you for your helpful input.

I am trying to preserve as many of the OEM parts as possible, even though they are plastic parts. We are on the same page, because plastic ties are on my replacement & repair parts list as well.

1. What is your recommendation on how to best remove the wiring harness protector above the starter?
2. Has anyone removed the bracket underneath (& also to the right of) the battery to starter solenoid wiring connector? If so, how did you proceed?

Thank you again.

I've never done anything with the harness above the starter nor disconnected the brown connector, which I believe is for the trans revolution sensor, if I'm not mistaken. The harness clip near the trans mount can be slide off it's bracket with the harness using a small screwdriver or pick tool to release the lock tab. The harness above can be left in place, just work around it. The bottom bolt of the starter is usually a bear to break loose, but once the starter bolts break loose, they usually come out pretty easily. Disconnect the wires from the solenoid and move that harness out of the way after you've slid the plastic clip off of the bracket. Unplug the connector for the starter wire and just pull the starter out of the engine compartment.

Default Starter Replacement: Only a few remaining steps

Dear smj999smj:

Thank you for your comments. I completed a few more steps:
1. WD40'd the bolt locking down bracket with various connectors (e.g. solenoid)
2. Moved the now loose bracket & connector, making it easier to disconnect.
3. Loosened the larger bolt locking the starter in place (17mm) with ~17mm deep socket, extension, and long breaker bar. Actually, this bolt was easy to loosen. Several days earlier, I WD40'd the bolts.

Currently, I am on the same page as you and believe the wiring harness protector above the starter do not have to be removed or displaced. If removed or displaced though, starter replacement can be easier by giving you more space.

The connector for the starter solenoid to battery does not want to easily disconnect and appears to have >1 locking clips.
1. What works for separating this connector without breaking it?

Since other parts are now visible, I am also inspecting them:
1. What are the exact names of the tubes or wiring harnesses crossing above the starter (see red arrows in the attached photo)? Both continue toward the vehicle's front, while one dives down & disappears.

Thank you again.
