Default 2005 Maxima Fuel Pump

Have 100k miles on my Maxima. Looking to replace fuel pump as preventative maintenance. Any thoughts?

If you don't have performance issue that points to a possible failing fuel pump then I would leave it alone. At that mileage I would rather do the following: change coolant, replace T-Stat, change transmission fluid, replace A/F mixture ratio sensor, PCV valve, radiator hoses. Inspect spark plugs and replace if necessary, tho you possibly could go 15k miles depending on its condition. Change brake fluid. Simply bleed brake lines front and back until you think old fluid is removed. Be sure to keep brake fluid reservoir full at all times. Inspect brake pads if you haven't done so. Do visual for engine oil leak in the valve cover area. It may point to valve cover gasket replacement or simply re-torque valve cover mounting bolts. Also Air Filter.

Because these are not emergency repairs you can take your time replacing each component and buy parts online for greater savings. And don't forget to record the date and parts you've replaced. Say you change Coolant, be sure to record the mileage. Even more savings if you DIY. If you are still convinced to replace fuel pump, Yes You Can.

Nissan fuel pumps are pretty reliable, on the whole. If it's working fine, then leave it alone. Sometimes the new pumps you put in aren't any good and they end up failing on you or are bad right out of the box.
