Dianostic Problem P0171
Hello Everyone,
I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima (V6) and am having some problems (obviously). Everytime I start my car, the RPM's almost go down to zero and the car almost stalls. The 'check engine' ligh is also on. Also, while driving on the interstate, the accelleration seems to weaken. When I got a diagnostic, the report reads: P0171 System too Lean (Bank 1) The mechanic said the problem lies in the Catalytic Converter/Oxygen Sensor. I am hoping to find the part elsewhere and pay a mechanic on the side to fix it. My question is this. Wanting to save as much money as possible (wisely), what should I focus on first? What seems to be the initial problem? Basically, what would you all do if this was your car? Thanks to everyone who takes a look at this. |

I would start with trying to clean the airflow meter. If that doesn't work , replace it.

I agree with mpe235, just make sure you don't damage the wires in the sensor or lave any debris inside.
