Default 1997 Maxima allignment + Rear Beam suspension

Hi guys and gals,

I have a 1997 nissan maxima gle. Today when my mechanic was changing rear break pads, he noticed that the rear axle beam was bent to one side, thus causing vehicle mis-alignment. He showed me and it is true the thing is bent. He tells me that hitting curbs and accident could be the cause. I have checked around and I seen a new one costs about $500. (Nissan part # 55501-31U11). I am debating whether it is worth changing it on such an old car. Is there a less expensive solution to this? Any advice is highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Depends how it's bent. If it's bent "up," I've seen people use an alignment rack, run a bar or 4x4 and a chain to bend the torsion beam back down. Of course, an alignment would need to be performed in the process to make sure it's within specs. Another option is to try and find a straight, used one in a salvage yard.

Thank you smj999smj. The beam is bent to one side. I think will make a trip to crazyrays junkyard. Anyone know of other junkyards near Savage, Maryland?

I have decided to have alignment done for now instead of replacing the beam. Will see how it holds up.
