axle seal leak vs new tranmission
Hi,
I need a second opinion. (This is similar to 11/30/2009 post by mdooley for 95 maxima) I have replaced transmission axle seals on 2001 Maxima SE 5 sp Manual transmission 1.5 yr ago (108 k km)due to fluid leak and again this month on driver side, new seal slowed but did not stop leak. Total mileage on car 120000 km. Regular service and maintenance, transmission fluid change at last seal change. Dealer notes differential bearing failure as cause. Suggests entire new transmission assembly. Is this reasonable or can the transmission bearing be replaced without entire new tranmission? There is no vibration or noise or driving change from new that I can detect. Car is not driven hard, 90% city driving, haven't even had to change brake pads yet. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, TR |

I don't remember having that problem before, but I suggest getting a second opinion from another dealer or shop or try another seal.

Thank you, can the bearings be replaced or would it require removal of transmission?
