Default Unusual problem with 2002 key fob

Hello all,

A co worker has a 2002 Maxima with a rather unique problem: the keyless entry fob won't work unless the key is in the ignition and turned on. Put in the key and turn it, the fob locks and unlocks the doors. Take the key out, the fob doesn't work. The vehicle does have the factory anti-theft system.

I checked the fuses and did a Google search: nothing. So I'm hoping that someone else might have and idea that will save the day. Thanks in advance.

Double check all of the fuses with a test light. Make sure you have power to both sides of the fuse. If that all checks out ok try disconnecting the smart entrance control module and reconnect it. It is under the dash to the right of the steering column.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give that a shot tomorrow morning.
