98 Nissan Maxima Wont Start
Ok here is the deal, my gf drove her 1998 nissan maxima to work today, ran fine. She parked it and 2hrs later, she went to go on lunch break and it started fine, she got to stop sign and went to let clutch out and car shut off, now it will not start, it will turn over. Im thinking its possibly the Crank position sensor but not sure. There is a piece close to firewall right above intake manifold that has 2 gas lines running to it and a plug, when she turns key on it makes a clicking stuttering noise and stops and then whens he cuts key off, it does it again, not sure if it suppose to or not.

The piece the "EVAP system purge volume control valve" and it will no cuase the not to start problem.
Does the engine cranks? The starter motor is a very common problem with your 98 maxima.

Yes, motor turns over, not very fast, even with new battery. I took out the sensor thats on bellhousing near transmission and it was horrible looking, so i cleaned it off and put back in and car started to act like it wanted to start. This has me stressed out

1996 Nissan Maxima Not Starting
Replaced ignition and fuel pump, but did not change in tank filter - will do tomorrow. Starter and alternator previously replaced. Have seen post concerning checking the ECU temperature gauge - will do tomorrow. I interchanged the fuel pump relay and the other two relays to the left of the fuses under the dash - a faint sound is coming from the fuel pump. Saw post about crankshaft sensors - where are they?

I have a 99 maxima that did the same thing. Turned over but would not start. It ended up being a a bad security key. If you have a second key try that one. Just a thought.
