What does the frontmost Catalytic Converter of a 2001 Maxima look like?
I have attached a picture of what I hope it looks like. Please let me know. Thank you so much Robin |

I have never seen anything that looks like that on a nissan. The front convertor is attached to the exhaust manifold. It is about 12 inches long. The front pipe bolts to the bottom of it with 3 studs and nuts.

The code states I need the bank1 converter, the front converter. I found this picture going through the "store" link on this site. There were several sellers that had it available. Amazon.com was the least expensive, and I trust them. This is what the part is called on this site:
Walker Exhaust 16209 Direct-Fit Catalytic Converter (Non-CARB Compliant) Walker - 16209, B000VKXAZQ Walker 16209 Exhaust Product Any more feedback? Thanks again Last edited by RobinHood; 11-06-2009 at 07:44 AM. Reason: mispelling |

Looks like the one you need is the one in your picture. P0420 is a rear pre-cat related code (Bank 1 pre-cat, the one enclosed by the dashed oval in the diagram I posted). The picture you posted looks like it would replace that whole section that is labeled "Front tube assembly" which contains the pre-cat. However, I don't know if that part actually has a converter in it, unless it is contained within that bulged portion that has a bar code wraped around. The front pre-cat, which sits closer to the front of the car (Bank 2 pre-cat) is related to code P0430.

Here are some different angles of the original picture that I pasted. Some of them look like previous pictures I, or one of your technicians pasted.
Any comments? ![]() ![]() ![]() The one everyone hated: ![]() I want it to be this one because I can afford it! thank you so much for all you help! Robin |

Those are not just diferent angles, they are different parts altogether, with the exception of the last picture (the one you can afford). They also don't look like they would fit your car. Only the one you pulled from ebay looks like a direct fit.

Here is the link to all the pictures that are supposed to be from the same part:
Amazon.com: Walker Exhaust 16209 Direct-Fit Catalytic Converter (Non-CARB Compliant): Automotive I found this part by going through the store link on this site. I chose catalytic converter and then entered my vehicle (2001 Maxima) Many pictures came up, but only one seemed logical. When I mentioned "this is the one I can afford:, I was refering to all the pictures that were supposed to be from the same part at differnt angles. Sorry to be such a pain is the *ss, but could you please follow the link and see what I mean? Again, I got this part from this site's store. Thank you so much for all your time and repeated help! I live in Florida and my car is California emission (or cali spec, as it is also called). The car was originally sold in NY. For the 2000 models there were federal emission and california emission exhaust systems. I believe all models 2001 and 2002 had a cali spec type of emission, as it is stated in the image I posted above. That's why I was assuming your car is cali spec. The point is, you can have a California emission vehicle regardless of where you live.
On my car, I can tell it is a cali spec by looking at the emission label located on the underside of the hood; it says something about complying with california emission standards. Also by the number of plugs lined up in front of the engine (between the engine and the radiator, see image). If it has 4 plugs is cali spec.

I finally went to a repair shop and they told me I need the need the other 5 ignitioncoils. I relaced #4 a few months ago. This shop is like family as I used to manage it. They will let me get my own parts to save me money Awesome dudes! You guys told me I should replace all 6 at once. But I chose the cheaper route. I'm disabled and pretty broke. I'm having a problem locating the parts. They seem to be from different manufactures? The front ones are all the same. I only want to use Japenese. Please help again!

When I puchased my set, a year ago, I got it from Amazon.com and Autozone. I'm not sure about their prices these days but it doesn't hurt to shop around. Regardless of the seller, they all had some sort of silver stickers covering the gray dots, indicating that they are updated coils.

The parts store is telling m there are two possibililties, I know left and right are different, but the parts store is teling me there arr two completely different possibilities based on brand. Does not make sense to me. Does any know the Oem Parts numbers?I have already replaced #4. Thanks again, You guys are awesome!

These are the parts numbers, taken from TSB NTB01-059:
Ignition Coil (Right Hand) 22448-2Y000 or 22448-2Y001 Ignition Coil (Left Hand) 22448-2Y005 or 22448-2Y006 I believe the second part numbers on each one of the coils refer to the updated version of the parts. I'm not sure I understand your statement correctly about the store telling you that there are two completely different possibilities based on brands. Are they referring to them as "front and rear" as opposed to "right and left"?
