Default 2001 maxima av ed - P0505 code

ok - wife called me on her way home from work and said that the car started to idle funny. When I got home I started the car and the idle was bouncing between low idle and 2000 - I put the car in drive and that went away - The car surged while driving and the CEL came on at that point. When to autozone and checked the code - p0505 - reset it and took it straight home and parked it in the garage - still doing the same thing and code has not come back yet.

The car has not been started since and the amount of time that the car was driven like this was maybe 20 minutes total.

I have been reading about the IACv and the ECM being toast - I was wondering if my ECM may be ok since it was not driven a long time in this state and the CEL has not come back yet.

What should be my next step - replace the IACV and try to do an idle relearn? Can i leave the negative battery cable unplugged for an hour and that would reset the ecu - that the car would relearn itself?

Whats my next step here. No work performed on the car yet. I was going to unplug the motor mounts just to keep from having that problem in the future. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Unplug the mounts and see if it idles correctly. If it doesn't the ecm is probably already damaged.

What makes you think motor mounts? I was going to unplug them just to keep from having a problem with them in the future. Will bad motor mounts cause the care to have a bouncy idle??

I was thinking a bad IACV?? Let me know.

Thanks in advance

The motor mounts short out and when they do they short the ecm circuit. That circuit runs right next to the circuit for the IACV and it burns out both circuits. It is very common.

I agree with MPE235. Unplug motor mounts and replace both the IAC and ECM, unfortunately.

I am trying to do as much as possible before taking the car to the dealership - I am going to unplug the motor mounts and pull out the ecm and look for damage - can anyone direct me on pictures on the location of the motormounts and how to get the ecm out. I believe the ecm is behild the center console correct? just remove the side panels of the console??

Any links to pictures would be great. Sorry about the delay, I have been out of town with the car sitting in my garage not doing anything with it, but the time has come to work on it and face the problem. Would the signal from the motor mouts cause the erratic idle??? and If I put in the IACV my self and just tow the car to the dealer with the ecm practically hanging out and have them just swap and program, do you guys know a ruff estimate on price for ECM and IDAC valve?

Default Just an update. What do you think?

OK - I unpluged the motor mounts and removed the ecm and looked for any damage. I could not find any damage anywhere (even opened the ECM) No burnt/melted wiring. After I looked at the ecm, i removed everything at the IACV - and inspected. Nothing noticeable. Put everything back together and started the car. Idles around 1200 RPM and when I rev it to 2100 or so, It says there sometimes and sometimes it will come back down. No CEL, never came back.
I am thinking that I need only an IACV and a relearn....What do you guys think????
